Winona Campus NewsletterStudents to stage ‘Songs for A New World’

Saint Mary’s Winona students bring a new perspective to Jason Robert Brown’s “Songs for A New World” during the new world of COVID-19. Theatre performances are scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, March 25-27.
“Songs for a New World” is a song cycle that takes people through the journey of what it means to be courageous and take control of our destiny to ultimately create a new world for ourselves, said Judy Myers, director.
Although many shows during COVID-19 are virtual, Saint Mary’s Department of Fine and Performing Arts is able to invite a small internal audience to attend in person. All performances will also be live streamed.
All evening performances will start at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6:45 p.m. Additionally, there will be a matinee at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, and doors will open at 2:45 p.m.
The audience will be restricted to no more than 50 people to ensure that safety procedures are followed. All Saint Mary’s students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend the performance in person; registration is required to ensure that the 50-seat limit is not exceeded.
Masks must be worn by audience members throughout the entire performance. Abundant seating is available to ensure that those in attendance are able to sit at least 6 feet apart.
Everyone is invited to watch the livestream of our performances.
Tickets are $5 for adults, but are free for Saint Mary’s students, faculty, and staff.

Saliva test kits available before Easter travel
Free saliva COVID-19 test kits will be available at the Wellness Center for Winona Campus students electing to travel for Easter. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends COVID-19 testing one to three days prior to travel. Zoom-enabled home test kits allow students to test at the time and location of their choice. Kits include a pre-paid envelope for overnight UPS shipping.
To obtain a free saliva-based COVID-19 test kit:
- Complete the Travel Request Form.
- Stop by the Wellness Center to pick up your kit between Thursday, March 25, and Wednesday, March 31.
- Allow two to three days for results once your test has shipped.
Saint Mary’s recommends testing for all students planning to travel for Easter.

Chartwells presentation on dining hall renovations in Winona
Abel Valenica, district marketing manager for Chartwells on the Winona Campus, presented to the Student Senate on March 16 details on upcoming dining hall renovations. His presentation provided an overview of the process, which began last spring with student surveys and engagement, and the proposed concept for the renovations. These renovations include an open concept eatery and the creation of one large dining room to provide more natural light and seating for students. Saint Mary’s is working with Chartwells on the final details regarding branding, color scheme, etc. The renovations will being mid-May, and the space will be completed for the 2021-22 academic year. We will provide regular renovation updates throughout the summer so you can see the changes.

Cardinal athletics week in review: March 22
It’s Monday morning, and before we start looking ahead to all the Cardinal action this week, here’s a quick look back at last week, which included action in men’s hockey, men’s and women’s tennis, baseball, and fastpitch softball.
R.I.S.E. Wellness Bingo continues with week three; you can still join!
Here’s how to play: Each week, complete the challenge for an area and cross it off (for example, physical, spiritual, or nutritional). Some challenges are for five days per week; some are one a week. Once you connect three areas, you’ve got a bingo. You can get more than one bingo by connecting different combinations of three areas. Each bingo gets your name in a drawing for a grand prize.
Blackout bingo: Complete the entire board to get a blackout bingo, and you will get 10 entries for the grand prize drawing. At the end of challenge, R.I.S.E. will collect your bingo sheets OR you can fill out your results in the Google form, which you can edit it as you go.

The Student Activities Committee (SAC) is looking for their 2021-22 executive board! Use the nomination form to nominate yourself or someone you think would be a great addition to SAC. You can fill out the form as many times as you need to.

The SAC elections meeting will be held via Zoom on Sunday, April 11. Anyone in attendance at that meeting will be able to cast one vote per executive board position.
