Spiritual offering

Saint Mary’s Campus Ministry continues to share spiritual offerings to provide much-needed perspective and a focus on faith in this time of uncertainty.

“Holiness consists simply in doing God’s will and being just what God wants us to be.” – Saint Therese of Lisieux

Census 2020

As 2020 Census forms begin arriving in mailboxes around the country, it’s time for Saint Mary’s students to help shape the future of the United States. Even though you may be living in a different location or have moved home, you still should be counted as part of the Minnesota community.

Census responses impact funding allocations for schools, roads, and other resources like federal grant and aid programs. Results also decide Minnesota’s number of seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and congressional and legislative districts.
Taking time to respond to the Census accurately is critical for our local community and state.

In the wake of COVID-19, the federal government recently updated its guidance on how college and university students should respond to the census. Here’s what Cardinals need to know:

  • Students who were living on campus or lived on campus before the residence halls closed, do not need to respond to the census. They will be counted by the university.
  • Undergraduate students in Winona who were living in an off-campus apartment or home, but are now temporarily living at another location, should respond using the address where they lived before they left Winona by visiting my2020census.org and entering the 12-digit code received in the mail. If you don’t have a code, click “Start Questionnaire,” and there is an option to indicate that you do not have a Census ID. Ideally, one person should respond on behalf of everyone living in the house. If it is not possible to coordinate with roommates, everyone should respond, and the Census Bureau will eliminate duplicate responses.
  • Undergraduate students in Winona currently living in off-campus residences should choose one person to respond on behalf of everyone living in the house. If it is not possible to coordinate with roommates, everyone should respond, and the Census Bureau will eliminate duplicate responses.
  • International students should follow the guidelines above that apply, regardless of their whereabouts after classes went online or their permanent residency.
  • Students who were studying abroad and have returned to the United States by April 1, should be counted where they are currently living.
  • Students at the Schools of Graduate and Professional Programs should visit my2020census.org and enter the 12-digit code received in the mail. If you don’t have a code, click “Start Questionnaire,” and there is an option to indicate that you do not have a Census ID.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). During this month, the Saint Mary’s community encourages all students to raise awareness about sexual assault and this year’s Sexual Assault Awareness theme: I ask.

Please renew our shared commitment to ending sexual misconduct on our campus and join us in taking the national “It’s On Us” pledge.

SAINT MARY’S, IT’S ON US … ALL OF US

All of us are and must be part of the solution – each and every one of us. Additional resources can be found on the Saint Mary’s Title IX page. To report sexual misconduct, go to smumn.edu/report.

Intramural Words with Friends Tournament

Sign up to take part in our Intramural Words with Friends Virtual Tournament! If you would like to participate, please send your Words with Friends username to intramurals@smumn.edu by 11:59 p.m. (CT) this Friday, April 3, to get your name added to the bracket. The bracket will be sent out to all participants by 9 a.m. on Monday, April 6.

RULES:

  1. Play one game with your opponent. You have one day (24 hours) to complete your game.
  2. The winner is responsible for reporting scores, though certainly, either party may report. Scores must be reported by the deadline or you will be eliminated from the tourney. If slow play is an issue, contact Haley Jung at intramurals@smumn.edu. If there is no play for 24 hours, provide a screenshot and you may claim the win. Do it prior to deadline. If neither player contacts intramurals@smumn.edu, both are eliminated. A player who is ahead when the game is delayed, and at the time of deadline, cannot report scores to their win. We need to hear from players with delayed play to make a ruling. It is not guaranteed the player who is ahead advances. We need to know what the delay was to decide the fairest outcome. If you are ahead and do not contact intramurals@smumn.edu but your opponent does, chances are they will advance. FINAL WORD: Communicate with intramurals@smumn.edu if there are issues.
  3. You may play the next round as soon as you know your next opponent. Intramurals will update the bracket and send it out to all participants as soon as scores are received.
  4. No outside help with your game playing is allowed, play timely, and communicate with your opponent. Reach out to intramurals@smumn.edu if you need assistance.
  5. CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: The winner is to provide a screenshot of the final game.
