16th annual Doctoral Research Symposium highlights student work
More than 140 doctoral students, faculty, and program alumni from across Saint Mary’s doctoral programs gathered on the Twin Cities Campus for the 16th annual Doctoral Research Symposium on March 7.

Four students share research with legislators at the Minnesota Capitol
Four Saint Mary’s students presented their research for Scholars at the Capitol March 11. During the event, these students had an opportunity to engage with several Minnesota lawmakers, who asked to review their research papers. A legislator also asked one of our students to potentially testify at a committee meeting related to a proposed bill. According to Dan Bucknam, Ph.D., “It was a great intersection between public policy and science.”
Faculty member publishes two pieces
Christopher Jordan, Ph.D., assistant professor of Chemistry, recently published two scholarly articles, one of which was co-authored with four Saint Mary’s students.

Ed.D. graduate, former police officer examines use-of-force training throughout Minnesota
After serving as a police officer for 17 years, Shawn Williams D’19 recently presented research on use-of-force skills-based training programs across Minnesota, work that he hopes will shed light on gaps in the system when it comes to establishing uniformity at the state’s nine training facilities.
Chemistry department receives grant for state-of-the-art spectrometer
Next school year, chemistry students on the Winona Campus will be able to identify the composition of materials using a cutting-edge piece of equipment made possible by a recently awarded grant.

On Wednesday, March 25, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz issued a two-week “stay at home” order beginning Friday, March 27, at midnight to Friday, April 10.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s direction to “stay home,” beginning Friday, March 27, and continuing for two weeks, means students will not be able to return to campus during this time frame.
