  • Each dining area is set up with social distancing guidelines, which includes the table occupancy. Do not move chairs to other tables.
  • Cleaning supplies are located on each table for your use. Please clean them before you depart, so they are sanitized and ready for the next guests.

Enjoy the Super Bowl safely

Enjoy the Super Bowl safely

The way we watch the Super Bowl (and any sports event) might be a bit different this year, but we can still enjoy it safely. Check out the following ideas by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for celebrating the Super Bowl safely with friends and family:

  • Hold a virtual gathering
  • Wear team clothing or decorate using your team’s colors
  • Start a group text or video chat to talk with friends while watching the game together
  • Plan a virtual trivia contest
  • Share appetizers or a meal with those you live with

As always, remember to keep gatherings small, wear masks, and wash your hands frequently!

Thanks to students

“We must find the time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives.” — John F. Kennedy

Today, we stop to give thanks to our Winona Campus students who are making a difference in the lives of the Saint Mary’s community. We thank you for testing before you arrived on campus. We thank you for participating in the mass COVID-19 testing event last Friday. We thank you for downloading the COVIDaware MN app. We thank you for your compliance with the soft quarantine during the first 10 days you have been on campus.

We see you wearing your masks. We see you observing social distancing. We see you keeping your “families” and “pods” to smaller numbers. We see you obeying our campus curfew. We see all of these things and are so proud of you. We see all of these things and are so thankful for your commitment to the university community.

Our soft quarantine ends at 4 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4. Our campus curfew (4 a.m. to 10 p.m.) will end at 4 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 8. We remain at level 3 (orange) for COVID-19 risk mitigation and will announce any changes to that level in the next week to 10 days.

We know how difficult continual compliance with our COVID-19 protocol is. We understand how tired you are of all things COVID-19. That makes us all the more thankful for what you are doing. It’s early in the semester, but your hard work and commitment have allowed us to start strong and safe.

Keep up the good work! Stay steadfast and resilient. Keep being the difference in our lives. Together, we can move forward.

Update on COVID-19 testing

Update on COVID-19 testing

On Jan. 29, all Winona undergraduate students completed a mandatory COVID-19 test, courtesy of Hy-Vee. A total of 533 students were tested from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the students did well with social distancing, wearing masks, and performing the self-administered tests with the assistance of the pharmacy team from Hy-Vee.

Only one student has tested positive for COVID-19 out of the 425 tests processed thus far. The university hopes for similar results from the remaining 100 tests. Students should check for their results via their Hy-Vee portal if they haven’t already.

Just a reminder that surveillance testing will begin on Friday, Feb. 5, from 12:30 to 1 p.m. in the gym. Surveillance testing is a random 10% sampling of the student body. Students will need their same Hy-Vee portal login information from the mass testing event on Jan. 29 if selected for surveillance testing. Watch your student email for more information from Residence Life.

Please note: All students were tested in the university’s mass testing event and must participate in surveillance testing with the exception of student-athletes who are being tested regularly as a result of practices or competitions, those who can prove they have tested positive within the past 90 days, and those being tested regularly due to off-campus employment.

Curfew extended until Monday, Feb. 8

The curfew for Saint Mary’s Winona Campus will remain in effect through the weekend. It will lift at 4 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 8. As a reminder, this means residents are to be in their residence halls by 10 p.m. each night.

Thank you for your continued cooperation in keeping our community safe.

Father James P. Burns

The Rev. James P. Burns, IVD, Ph.D.
President
